Free horror game

In The Mountains is a free horror adventure game where you go through a snowy mountain and into a dark, unknown cave. The developer, Decestia, designed the atmosphere, sound effects, and graphics in an incredibly eerie way that will make players anxious in every step they take through the darkness.

The game lets the players explore the cave in a first-person view, with nothing but a flashlight that barely illuminates the way. With its dark pixelated design and scary ambiance, the game succeeds in creating an environment that will send shivers down your spine without the need for cheap jumpscares.

Great horror elements

In The Mountains gives you more than enough for it to be a good horror game. It’s dark, restricts the vision of the player, and has the right sound effects. However, the limited illumination can be a little too restrictive for it to be a realistic flashlight view. Still, the pixel design fits perfectly with the texture and feel of a dark, sinister cave.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that the game has good pacing in terms of building up to the scary bits. Players will undoubtedly hold their breaths while exploring the cave, especially when the creepy “shadow people” start showing themselves. Additionally, the design of the monster was great, paired with the chilling sound it makes. However, the player’s movement is limited and a little slow, and there’s no option to run

Moreover, the game has a lot of other elements that make it enjoyable. The maze-like design of the cave and the abandoned facility is well-thought-out and very detailed, complete with dozens of crates, flickering lights, a bathroom, doors that need keycards that you also need to find, and more. Unfortunately, as you go deeper, you don’t have time to take breaks because you can’t pause.

Unquestionably scary

Overall, In The Mountains is a great game worth playing if you want something that is sure to give you the chills. The game also doesn’t have to rely on cheap horror music and tacky jump scares to scare its players. Moreover, the aesthetics are great, and the pixel design fits the environment. Unfortunately, your vision can be too limited and too dark, and there’s no run or pause feature.
